Steel-wire fluoroplastic logging cables (commonly referred to in the industry as load-bearing logging cables) are a type of high-strength, heat-resistant, and corrosion-resistant specialty cable.
Steel-wire fluoroplastic logging cables (commonly referred to in the industry as load-bearing logging cables) are a type of high-strength, heat-resistant, and corrosion-resistant specialty cable. They feature a fluoroplastic-insulated core with steel-wire armor and are used for weighted logging and data transmission in deep wells and underwater environments.
I. Models and Naming Conventions (Common)
WGSF46: Single-core, F46 insulation, double-layer steel wire armor
W3F46: Three-core, F46 insulation, double-layer steel wire armor
W7F46PP: Seven-core, F46 insulation, phase-by-phase + overall shielding, double steel wire armor
Suffix P: Overall shielding; F46: Polyperfluoroethylene-propylene; F40: ETFE jacket
II. Typical Construction (From Inner to Outer)
Conductor: Multi-strand copper-plated / pure copper (e.g., 7×0.33 mm)
Insulation: F46 (-30°C to +200°C) or PFA (short-term up to 285°C)
Shielding: Phase-by-phase shielding + overall shielding (copper tape / copper wire)
Armor: Double layer of high-strength galvanized / stainless steel wire (tensile strength ≥ 1870 MPa)
Outer Sheath: F40 (ETFE) or F46. Corrosion-resistant and flame-retardant
III. Key Features
Ultra-High Tensile Strength: Steel wire armor provides load-bearing capacity, allowing heavy instruments to be lowered into wells or submerged in water
Wide Temperature Range: -30°C to +200°C (F46), short-term up to 250°C; PFA up to 285°C
High Corrosion Resistance: Resistant to oil, acids, alkalis, and hydrogen sulfide; suitable for oil and gas wells and seawater environments
Low Signal Attenuation: Low dielectric constant of fluoroplastic ensures stable high-frequency transmission
Flame-Retardant Safety: High oxygen index with low smoke emission during combustion
IV. Main Applications
Oil and Gas Wells: Logging, perforating, core sampling, dewaxing, and viscosity reduction operations
Hydrology and Oceanography: Deep-sea exploration, river and harbor hydrographic surveys
Geological Exploration: Monitoring of coalfields, geothermal wells, and deep mine shafts
